I often dream of a 3rd car; and I’d want it to check a few differing boxes- more fuel efficient than my current option , Interior space between the 996 and the X1, manual, preferably RWD.
Two very different but also very similar cars pique my interest. These two cars are built on the same chassis, And share the same engine. The ATS I believe got some sporty bits(magne ride and Brembo maybe?) and the Camaro gets the 1LE. I’m not really shopping but if I were I’d probably go Caddy. But I love the colors of the Camaro- though I grabbed a grey one for this comparison they come in an amazing yellow and orange . The biggest issue with the Cadillac is availability of manuals; you could buy this one, and that’s it, according to car gurus.

I very rarely see ATS coupes and when I do they are always manuals. Theoretically a red manual ATS coupe with the magne ride option (wasn’t it?) exists, which would be a perfect stealth rocketship daily, but good luck finding one.

I was actually back and forth between an ATS Coupe and a Camaro the last time I shopped. Ended up with a Camaro - can’t put my finger on it, exactly, but I somehow felt more comfortable with a Chevy over a Cadillac. At the time, I was in middle management, and my staff had Journeys, Corollas, Fiestas, and the like, just would have felt odd parking a Caddy in the lot. Maybe that’s dumb, I don’t know, at the time, I just didn’t feel like a Cadillac person
. I’ve had a couple Lincolns and a Cadillac in the past, but they were obviously much
older used cars
when I got them.

Its crazy that that’ s the ONLY manual ATS coupe in the whole country listed for sale. I would go with the Camaro though. The ATS is trying to be something its not being a coupe. And if you got it you would probably wish you got the Camaro anyway.

I’ve driven both, and if you can put up with the outward visibility I’d go Camaro all the way.
The ATS’s are great handling cars, but the manual is only paired to the 2.0T motor, which is a pretty boring motor and sounds awful in my opinion. They did offer a great 3.6 V6 that sounds WAY better, but only paired with an autotragic.
Luckily, you can get that V6 paired with a 6 speed (or the LT1 as god intended) in the Camaro. If you get the C amaro, spring for the 1LE pack, which adds a lot of go fast bits no matter which engine you spec.
The last gripe a lot of people have about the camaro is the plastic-y interior, but they actually offer a lot of leather wrapped parts as accessories you can add to class it up a bit.

Yeah a red one or that bright blue would be pretty ideal.

I get it- less from a work perspective but even though my 996 is a budget special the looks of other parents at my daughters school(public broad economic backgrounds) or the teachers at preschool have a bit of judgment in the eyes.
One funny note about the comparison for me is that there is a listed 2” different in width and it would make a difference for me in our off street parking especially since most coupe doors are long...

Yeah, there are more sedans but they were made for more years. Your point about the Camaro is probably not wrong.

Well either way I’d be eyeing up the 2.0 because this car would specifically be a daily with hopefully better fuel economy. My 996 and X1 both have bigger engines that make good noises.

That’s fair. The C amaro’s six sounds pretty great with the performance exhaust though, just sayin’ ;)
